Scholarship Fund
In 2005, Events Unlimited began the Mamie Williams Scholarship Fund, now known as The Mamie Wiilliams Foundation, that funds to assist at-risk youth in pursuing their higher education goals. To learn more about the foundation’s programs, visit www.mamiewilliamsfdn.org.
The scholarship is named in memory of the late Mamie Williams, the grandmother of Kim E. Davis, President and CEO of Events Unlimited Inc. The impetus for the scholarship fund was to reach deserving students at both Williams and Davis’ former place of worship where Williams was a member for over 65 years. In 2006, the operation of the fund was expanded to reach the School District of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Parochial Schools. The overall objective of the fund is to assist students with scholarship funds and resources related to education to benefit their academic performance.
Mamie Williams, a centenarian and active volunteer in North Philadelphia until her death in 1993, is the inspiration for the Annual Harvest Festival and the foundation. Davis chose to name the foundation after her grandmother because “she was always giving and supporting programs for youth development and especially loved young people.” Mrs. Williams attended the Clara Baldwin Senior Center in North Philadelphia where she had been an active volunteer for the Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Intergenerational Program, committed to interacting with children from the Johnson Day Care, their matching center. The Honorable Curtis Thomas awarded her a Citation from the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1993.
